House Details

The Gate House was built in the 1970s for the use of the family who worked for The Stable House property and grounds; it was formerly known as The Stable House Lodge, and was previously rented as a 4 bed house.

We started renovation work in March 2021 and finished by the end of May for half term after a lot of hard work and help from family and friends! The windows have been replaced to make the most of the beautiful views over the surrounding countryside and the outside has new cladding and paintwork to bring it in line with The Stable Studios and The Stable Barn.

Upstairs there are two spacious double bedrooms (one with an additional single bed) with their own ensuite shower-rooms, each having large windows to make the most of the views of the countryside and trees; The main bedroom also has a cosy corner to sit and read in under the eaves.

Downstairs the sliding doors from the dining area, open out onto the garden and there are new sliding windows all around to make the most of the views; the dividing walls have been removed as far as is structurally possible to create a lovely large light and open space for sitting on one side, dining on another and a well equipped kitchen on the other.

We leave a welcome breakfast pack of some local farm fresh eggs, cereal, milk, coffee and tea, along with cooking oil, salt & pepper.

There is a washing machine/dryer in the house and a downstairs toilet.

The Gate House has its own private garden and there is access to the extensive grounds of The Stable House with woodland and a partly restored Victorian Kitchen Garden to explore. You can look over the Orchard or into the field beyond to see the donkey and alpacas, or cattle (dependent on the time of year); or if you enjoy bird watching, bring your binoculars to enjoy spotting the resident buzzards and red kites, not forgetting the many species of garden and woodland smaller birds.

From the grounds it is possible to walk across the fields to join the public footpath network if you want to venture further afield.

What was a downstairs bedroom has been converted into the Orchard Studio. This has its own private access and is well sound-insulated from the Gate House; it has a double bed room with shower ensuite and a separate living room with kitchen and dining facilities and a sliding door out onto its own private patio. This can be booked separately and will not in any way impinge on the privacy of the Gate House.

We run a Coffee Club out of The Stable Barn, in the old stableyard, serving Barista coffee (including decaf) and various teas, and home made cakes and biscuits (with a gluten free option!). We’re open to guests and friends. We ask for a donation to cover the cost of the coffee etc plus a bit extra which goes to help support the work of the Aesso Orphanage in Burkina Faso, West Africa. Ask us about our visits there. Check with us when this is open.

The Stable House Retreat property is known as a safe place to retreat, rest, relax and be restored.

We have other accommodation available on The Stable House property, if you want to meet up with other families and friends. These are listed separately. We would ask no parties please and please be considerate to other residents

The Gate House is situated near to our family home so we do ask that guests are respectful of our space and look after the house and respect the outside spaces marked Private.
